2005-P "BISON" BU GEM JEFFERSON -GREAT ADDITION TO ANY COLLECTION-MUST SEE. Up for sale today is an extremely beautiful. Been in circulation or in the hands of another collector. I personally removed this nickel from it's United States Mint Packaging (cello) to take pictures of it. I then placed it inside a 2X2 for safe keeping. My nickels are one of a kind, hand picked nickels. THE ACTUAL NICKEL PICTURED IS THE ONE YOU WILL RECEIVE. That is only common sense.

If you are paying hundreds of dollars, you think you will get the ACTUAL COIN you are looking at in the listing. I HAVE ALWAYS DONE THAT! Now I do agree with the phrase. Coin grading is a subjective practice; it is not a scientific discipline. I have been a Jefferson Nickel expert for almost 40 years now.

I worked as a professional coin grader when I lived in Orange County California. I gave seminars every year at the Long Beach coin show. The first was to show how nice my nickels are. The second and more important point is how bad the graders at these companies can be some times. I mean look at attached pictures.

PCGS gave this coin a MS66 GRADE. Look at some of the other pictures. So then the question you have to ask yourself is, How can this happen?

Well it is sadly pretty obvious when you think that these companies are a business that are taking in THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS of coins to be graded EVERY DAY! That means they spend about 45 SECONDS on your coin! What's worse is there is NO OTHER appraising business in the country that you can PAY the appraiser to RESUBMIT your coin to get a HIGHER GRADE!

This "business model" means that they are going to give you a lower grade to start with so you will use this "resubmission service" to get the higher grade the next time. You can't do this in Real Estate, you can't do this in the art world or in antiques, nowhere!

NGC has got their new "NGCX" service where they want to re-capsulate all coins with a big. " in the upper right corner to make it easier to "understand.

I think we all know the answer to that question. If you read NGC's web site, you will see that they say there is no difference between the big "10" and the industry standard Sheldon scale that has been used for ever.

So than you ask why this new service? And this is the point I have been trying to make over the last couple years. I spend hours upon hours, if not days picking out the coins I list for sale. They say you will receive a coin "similar" to the item pictured.

What a bunch of crap that is. Go trust their opinions and get your coins graded from the companies that spend 45 seconds on your coins. The reason I have decided to change all my listings to just saying one sentence is because of my last nickel sale.

The 1st came back as a MS69FB!!!!! That means that dime came back as. Than I thought it should have. The cheapest grade service there was.

And the grader probably spent maybe 30 to 45 seconds looking at the coin. I don't know exactly why it came back like that, but I do know the nickel was at least an MS66FS. That is why I say you look at the attached pictures from the professional grading company sites and you will see what I mean. Tracking information will be provided to you. So, we know exactly what the coin looked like when it left our hands. This assumes that the coin is still sellable. If you are worried about anything when returning the coin, take pictures. Make sure to pack the coin as safe as we did when we sent it to you. Get Supersized Images & Free Image Hosting. Create your brand with Auctiva's.
