Bev Doolittle's Calling the Buffalo open edition print, presented in a substantial custom Southwestern-style frame with equally striking matting. The composition uses Doolittle's signature illusion technique with bison forms emerging from rock and water, handled with tight high-contrast detail that reads cleanly at distance and rewards a closer look. The framing is well executed and clearly boutique: layered mats with stepped geometric cuts, a hand-finished blue field, and a dimensional buffalo skull inset that gives the piece real presence. I've done my fair share of matting and this piece was hand cut by a master, simply an absurdly difficult job to pull off this well.
The solid wood frame carries a distressed cerused finish that complements the palette without overpowering the image. This is an open edition print with a printed signature within the image rather than a pencil-signed or numbered example. Overall dimensions approximately 29" wide by 22.5" tall, housed under glass.
The distressed finish masks these well and they do not detract from display. Glazing clean with no obvious scratches. One very small speck behind the glass visible only under close inspection, not noticeable at normal viewing distance.Matting and print present cleanly with strong color and no visible sun fade. Reverse retains original dust cover with a few small punctures, all minor.
Frame structurally sound and fitted with a heavy-duty hanger appropriate for the weight.
